Aikido in Iran

The year 1998 was a tumultuous year for Ahmad Ali Aghsaghloo in Japan and a pivotal year for martial arts in Iran. During a ceremony, the great Japanese master Yasuo Kobayashi announced his passing the level-up exams (3rd Dan black belt globally) and awarded him the certificate to teach Aikido in the Islamic Republic of Iran. A few months later, he opened his first dojo in Tehran. He taught Aikido as he had learned during his 9 years stay in Japan, with the same meticulousness as great master Yasuo Kobayashi (8th Dan Aikikai) and other grand masters Haruo Ishigaki (8th Dan Aikikai) who taught him the principles of Aikido.

Slowly but steadily, master Aghsaghloo enhanced his skills and quality of work, making a name for himself not only in Iran but also internationally. In 1998, he opened his first dojo in Tehran, and this network grew to about 200 dojos across the country under his supervision. According to him, he is now mostly busy training his grandchildren and new students in Aikido. Having returned to Iran in 1998, he maintained contact with his teachers and the global Aikido center, Hombu Dojo, in Japan. With the expansion of his activities in Iran, Aikido Iran was registered in the Federation of Martial Arts Associations, and he received the permanent license to operate nationwide in 2007.

With advice from his teachers and the masters at the global Aikido center, he improved his work quality day by day. In April 2006, the global Aikido center recognized the dojos under his supervision, known as Aikido of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Ali Dojo). This means that according to Hombu Dojo, the dojos under Ahmad Ali Aghsaghloo's supervision are on par with those under grand master Yasuo Kobayashi and grand master Haruo Ishigaki. This decree stated: "Aikido of the Islamic Republic of Iran (ALI DOJO) is officially recognized under Ahmad Ali Aghsaghloo by the global Aikido center (Hombu Dojo) for teaching Aikido according to the principles set by its founder, Morihei Ueshiba." This decree was signed on April 19, 2006, by Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba, the head of the global Aikido center.

Thus, master Ahmad Ali Aghsaghloo can conduct global Dan-level exams on behalf of the global Aikido center. Those who pass these exams successfully will receive their certificates from Japan, signed by Doshu Moriteru Ueshiba, the head of Aikido worldwide. The Kyu ranks certificates signed by master Aghsaghloo are also valid at Hombu Dojo.

In 2007, Ahmad Ali Aghsaghloo's coaching rank was certified as Shidoin by the global Aikido center. He began practicing Aikido in Japan in the early 1990s and received his first Dan in 1993. Currently, master Ahmad Ali Aghsaghloo is the president of the Iranian Aikido Association and the head of the largest Aikido group in Iran. He holds the 8th national Dan and the 6th global Dan, which he received on January 18, 2018, and is a capable international instructor and examiner for conducting global exams up to the 6th Dan.
